EARTH DAY 2008
A Celebration of Being on the EARTH
Created:  Wednesday, May 7, 2008

"People often comment on the rush, the pace, the unsatisfying qualties of modern life, and there's something therapeutic about having a direct connection with nature. It's more than just conscious, and it's beyond faith or religion.  It's a miracle.  Life itself is a miracle.  We come out of the Earth and the conditions that make that possible should be appreciated.  It's pretty amazing that this is even taking place and it's certainly a phenomenon worth appreciating."  William Eaton, musician, maker of instruments, and concert organizer.  http://www.william-eaton.com/

Eaton isn't a romanticist looking to coax people out of civilization and into caves.  He's interested in bringing people together to experience and understand what it means to be alive on this planet.   The intention of this event was as much for contemplation and reverence as it was for any entertainement value.

"At IET we spend alot of time working hard to provide environmental education,  and finding creative ways to create harmony on the earth.  We don't find time often enough to simply celebrate being on the earth with a concert such as this one."
Diane Dearmore, Director - Institute of EcoTourism

A Poem performed and dedicated to Earth Day 2008
and everyday!

Heart Born Eyes
copyright Wendy Harford

there is not in life
that is not
art
when you open your eyes
and with them
your
heart

there is not at all
in all of mankind
that you cannot be
when you open
your
mind

there is not in magic
nor mystical charm
that you cannot
when you open
your
arms

there is infinity
in an empty bowl
when your gaze within
travels through
your
soul

with your heart afire
your mind alight
spread your arms
for the souls maiden flight
and when flying found
remember the sound
of voices raised
in undying praise
for the beauty of
those spacious skys
found only through
our
heart
born
eyes
